Formed in the spring of 2005, they have had to suffer a string of bad luck when it came to bass players, preventing them from gigging until fairly recently. The two guitarists (David and Charlie) and the drummer at the time (Jim) persevered through this difficult period though, and as well as increasing their collection of material, they really got to grips with their unique sound…
With the recent recording of their demo, the band hopes to start pushing their live performances, when the true magic of what they’re about comes to light. | | Click here to be notified for upcoming gigs for Player 1 | | | Sun,19th Jul 09 | Stone Roses Bar | | One of Yorks most established Indie acts, Playing for free down at Yorks no.1 Indie Bar - Stone Roses. | | | 9 | Stone Roses Bar | Fri,2nd May | | Its been a while since I've seen player1 live, and what better opportunity than the free gig at the stone roses. Always a top place to head for on a Friday night - York's dedicated Indie bar is now open every night until 2am and have DJs following the live bands on Fridays and Saturdays, with a vibrant youthful crowd always on show. Player1 are perfectly suited to the stone roses bar - in an
Indie sense they are what Uri gelar is to Michael Jackson - one conjures up Indie magic, the other is a kiddie fiddler...
After a couple of worthy support acts, Player1 kicked off about 10.30. Particular tracks that stood out were surrender, rain cloud, vampire and the wonderful instrumental which is such a trademark of Player1 live. Also there must be mention of the best sounding drum kit this side of Stewart Copeland's basement. All in all a set which is hard to fault - great material , tight performing and energetic delivery, Player1 are a guaranteed crowd pleaser - check them out soon you won't be disappointed.. - yorknights | | 9 | Stone Roses Bar | Fri,2nd May | | First time seeing them live, wasn't sure which band was which but glad I hanged around to see them - brilliant live band - rach | | 8 | The Junction | Mon,28th May | | Kindly performing for free, as part of the 27 bands taking part in the massive Paul Hunter tribute concerts. First gig at the Junction for this recently formed band, and what a treat they are. An indie rock 4 piece, Player 1 delivered a tight set that improved as it went on. If anything they were let down slightly by the dodgy acoustics offered by the Junction - the drummers homemade snare was a total treat but unfortunately totally took over in the overall sound. It'd be good to see these guys playing in a venue with acoustics that will do them justice (is there such a place in York?) - meantime I'm sure they'll have no problems securing regular appearances on fhe York circuit - thumbs up! - yorknights |
